Your LTL invoice is higher than the quote. What changed?
The fastest way to review a higher final invoice is to separate legitimate shipment changes from unsupported or mismatched billing.
Start with a line-by-line comparison
- Quoted base rate vs final base rate
- Fuel surcharge
- Freight class
- Weight and dimensions
- Accessorial charges
- Duplicate or repeated line items
- Discounts or negotiated rate application
Then ask why each changed line changed
Common explanations include reclass, reweigh, dimension adjustments, limited access, liftgate, detention, appointment, redelivery, residential delivery, or a rate/discount mismatch.
Match the explanation to evidence
Use the quote or rate confirmation, BOL, POD, timestamps, photos, facility records, and carrier inspection/measurement records. A difference is much easier to dispute when you can point to a specific document that conflicts with the charge.
Decide whether it is worth pursuing
Consider the amount, evidence quality, contract/tariff terms, and the time required to follow through. Small valid discrepancies can still add up at volume, but not every higher invoice is an error.
